Komeyakata Guesthouse - Yamagata Japan

Yamagata Guesthouse is an operational rice and vegitable farm along with guest house services located in the Yamgata region of Japan. The Farm is run and operated by three generations of a local japanese family that has been working these fields for over 100 years

The ryokan style guest house is primarly used as a pit stop for travellers venturing between central and northern japan however there is an abundance of activites to experiance while in the yamagata area inlcuding premier onsen, fresh produce and hiking adventures

My experiance at Komeyakata was through the Workaway platform. In exchange for my labour and working on the farm, i received accomdation and food for the entire time i was there, and by food, i mean home made japanese breakfast, lunch and diner, snacks and all the sake i could drink. They also had an assortment of pickled items from the farm that turned into an mean knockoff snack with a cold beer. The hours expected to be worked on the farm were longer than your typical work away ( 4 vs 8) but the overall opportunity to live and work on a japanese farm, feel apart of the family by eating all meals together and, for me, doing work that isnt beind a desk made it all worth while!
